In very simplified terms, the Mercedes G 63 AMG 6×6 is the symbiosis of a military chassis with the body from the civilian 463 series, refined with parts from the accessories. The three-axle chassis goes back to an order from the Australian Army, which ordered 2,000 military Gs in the 6×6 version. After the development was already done, Mercedes put on a left-hand drive of the military 6×6-G as a “finger exercise”, which is also popular with other national defenders.
This chassis of the 461 commercial vehicle series serves as the backbone of the Mercedes G 63 AMG 6×6. It was married to the civilian drive technology from the youngest model year: 5.5-liter biturbo V8 from the in-house tuning company AMG, flanged to the AMG Speedshift 7-G-Tronic automatic transmission.
