The AR-Spider of the 3.generation offers a lot of driving fun for sunny days

A young Dustin Hoffman drives hundreds of kilometres – musically accompanied by a Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack – in a red convertible: if you are one of the millions of people who saw the 1967 feature film “The Graduate”, you will probably remember the scene. It was an early example of successful product placement, and the car in question an Alfa Romeo Spider “Duetto” that had been released the year before. And had come to stay: The roadster remained in production with only minor modifications for almost 3 decades, making it one of the most famous convertibles of all time. The first generation Alfa Romeo Spider (1966 – 1969) had an elongated round rear end. For the 2nd series (1969 – 1982) this was cut off, as it were, giving the “Fastback” Spider its typical appearance. The 3rd series (1982 – 1990) can be recognised by its rather voluminous front and rear bumpers, which gave it the nickname “rubber lip”. The 4th and last generation (1990 – 1993) dispensed with the spoilers under the bumper and on the boot lid in favour of a more classic appearance. 124,104 Spiders are said to have been built in total. In Germany, the Spider tops the ranking of historic vehicles in the category “import car”.
