The first generation of the Corvette, as introduced in 1953, was Chevrolet’s response to Porsche and Jaguar: a compact roadster, lightweight thanks to its plastic body and, from 1956 with the V8, also sporty. In 1963, the 2nd generation was presented with exciting design and the folding headlights – trademarks of the Corvette. 3rd generation appeared in 1968 and had a much more muscular appearance. The fourth Corvette, whose body was simpler and more inconspicuous, came onto the market in 1984. The fifth Corvette was completely redesigned. Thanks to the modified body and chassis as well as the aluminium engine, the handling was improved. To differentiate itself from the Chevrolet cars sold by Daewoo since 2005, the sixth generation was offered under the brand name Corvette. The body of this Corvette was reduced in size, the interior was upgraded and there was no room for the folding headlights. The V8 engine was first equipped with 6.0 litres and three years later with 6.2 litres. The Corvette Z06 was built on the basis of the C6. This was the fastest and strongest of all the models that had appeared so far. The 7.0 litre V8 engine produced 377 kW (513 hp). The Z06 was produced until 2013 and belongs to the super sports car category.
