Production of the Triumph TR6 began in January 1969 as the successor to the TR5/TR250 series. Some chassis and suspension components of the successful predecessor series were adopted. The design of the new English roadster did not come from the Italian automobile designer Giovanni Michelotti, but the German body plant Karmann in Osnabrück took over the exterior design of the body. Design elements of the predecessors were also retained. The smooth lines of the body, the modified rear design with the enlarged trunk and the wider wheels make the roadster look flatter and faster. With a top speed of over 190 km/h, the powerful 2.5 L inline 6-cylinder engine with 105 kW/143 hp also makes its contribution. During its production period, which ended in July 1976, there were several modifications. Affected was also the transmission, which was replaced by the Triumph Stag unit from about mid-1971. The functional interior, comfortable seats, and clean-lined dashboard are popular features of the TR6. It embodies the appeal of a British roadster and remains an extremely popular sports car today. Its successor, the TR7, is a completely new model.
