Extremely rare and well-maintained Admiral-B with original equipment

In the early days of the Federal Republic of Germany, Opel was not only considered an established manufacturer of affordable cars, but also of luxury sedans, which sold more than Mercedes-Benz in the 1950s. In the 1960s this changed to Opel’s disadvantage. In 1964, an entirely new series of six-cylinder sedans was introduced. There were three different models: Captain, Admiral and Diplomat, which were essentially identical in construction, with different equipment variants. The cars were generally highly praised. They were considered modern, sophisticated and offered at a fair price, but they failed to achieve the market recognition they deserved. Not even the version with a V8 engine – from GM partner Chevrolet – could provide the necessary prestige. After four years and almost 90,000 units built, Opel gave its KAD series a thorough overhaul: you can quickly recognize them by their vertical front indicators (Kapitän, Admiral) or vertical headlights (Diplomat). This so-called B-series remained in production until 1977, but no more than 51,000 were built. They were undoubtedly great cars, and in retrospect one can say that they are among the most overlooked German luxury cars of all time. The KAD series was discontinued in July 1977.
