Vehicle Description

Each generation of Alfa Romeo Spiders has its assets. This example originates from the 4th, or “Ultima” series, which may be considered the most technically advanced of the classical Spiders, featuring Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection as well as on-board diagnostics.
This beautiful Spider is a 1992 model, which makes it a late specimen from the penultimate year of production. The vehicle is an Italian first delivery which was imported into Germany as a new vehicle, with two known owners. It is painted in red, which many Alfisti will agree is the colour of choice for any Alfa Romeo, and for a Spider in particular. The paint is in good condition, though onset of rust is becoming visible in certain places. A body-coloured hard top – not at all a common option – is included and presents itself in good shape. The Spider runs on the characteristic “phonedial” 15″ alloy wheels. It also features power windows and a contemporary CD radio.
The black leather interior gives a cared-for appearance with only minor traces of use. Under the bonnet, there’s the 2.0 litre Twin Cam 4-cylinder engine which produces 88 kW (120 hp) of power and is mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. With a low unwarranted mileage of merely 83,100 km, this Spider is far from retirement. It is now looking for care and attention at the hands of a new owner, who will be rewarded by pleasurable drives on many a sunshiny day.

A young Dustin Hoffman driving hundreds of miles – to the musical accompaniment of a Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack – in a red convertible: If you’re among the millions of people who watched the 1967 motion picture “The Graduate”, you’re likely to remember the scene. It was an early case of successful product placement and the car in question an Alfa Romeo Spider “Duetto”, which had come out the year before. And was there to stay: With only minor changes, the roadster remained in production for nearly three decades, making it one of the best-known convertibles of all times. The Alfa Romeo Spider of the 1st generation (1966-1969) featured an elongated round tail section. For the series 2 (1969-1982) this was effectively cut off, giving the “fastback” Spider its typical appearance. The Series 3 (1982-1990) can be distinguished by their rather voluminous front and rear bumpers, which gave these cars their nickname, “rubber lip”. The final 4th generation (1990-1993) did away with the under-bumper and trunk-lid spoilers in favour of a more classical appearance. 124,104 Spiders are said to have been built altogether. In Germany, the Spider tops the list of classic cars in the “imports” category.
