Sales on behalf of customer
Renault began the W71 project back in 1989. The aim of this project series was to return to the origins of lightweight sports cars. Like the legendary Alpine’s, a new development was not to be geared towards suitability for everyday use and comfort, but rather to impress with its driving performance. The first model names A710 or A410 were already available. The poor sales figures of the Alpine models put a stop to the continuation of the W71 project. The developers then worked on the x94 project, the Spider, which was to be marketed under the name Renault Sport. The Spider was produced between 1995 and 1999 and the engine and gearbox came from the Renault Clio Williams model. This drive unit is installed transversely in front of the rear axle. The Spider was Renault’s second mid-engined sports car after the R5 Turbo with rear-wheel drive. The engineers derived the aluminum chassis and the chassis, built over the GRP body, directly from the formula racing cars. The result was an uncompromising and purist sports car. There were only four colors to choose from: Sport Red, Sport Yellow, Sport Blue and Titanium Grey. The rear was always painted in Fjord Gray. Customers could choose between a windshield or the wind deflector. A total of 1653 Spiders were sold worldwide. The model with wind deflector accounted for 26.5% of these.
