The story about the creation of the OSI Ford is curious. In early 1965, OSI was commissioned by Ford to create a sleek styling study based on the Taunus P5. The design came from Sergio Sartorelli, who once designed the Karmann Ghia Type 34 (“the big Karmann”). In March 1966, Ford showed the styling result at the Geneva Salon and was completely surprised by the public’s approval. In fact, OSI was to build the car like this. And now the body shop was surprised by the yes to series production. Despite hastily built manual production, the quality was surprisingly good.
Ford Europe sent the Starrachs chassis and initially the engine two-liter V6 of the Taunus to Italy, OSI re-dressed the base: The steering wheel and ashtray came from Maserati, the horn button from the Fiat 500, and the taillights from the Ferrari 275. The engine, however, produced just 90 hp, ensured a rather mediocre top speed of 165 km/h, and gave the car 14.5 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. From the end of 1967, the more powerful 2.3-liter V6 was available as an option, but with only 108 hp. Initially six, later 15 cars per day were produced thanks to the help of 800 workers. Ford provided the distribution network, and the OSIs received the same attention in the workshops as the pure Fords.
