The Lancia Fulvia is an automobile of the Italian manufacturer Lancia. The vehicle was built from the fall of 1963 to early 1976 and is considered the successor to the Lancia Appia. Like other Lancia models after the Aurelia introduced in 1950, the Fulvia was named after a classic Roman road, in this case the Via Fulvia, which led from Cortona to Torino. The Fulvia was available as a sedan (Berlina) and a coupe. It was based on the larger Lancia Flavia and for the first time featured the advanced front-wheel drive, disc brakes and an elaborate chassis that provided excellent roadholding. The coupe’s shape was designed by Italian designer Pietro Castagnero at Lancia’s “Centro Stile” and was unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1965. The Fulvia Coupé marked the beginning of a long and successful rally career at Lancia. As early as 1972, Lancia won the rally construction championship. The costly development, construction and the outstanding quality became Lancia commercially regarded to the doom. So that Lancia was taken over 1969 by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat.
