The flat radiator coupe was delivered to the US in 1970 and re-imported to Germany in 2014. The construction period took only 23 months from August 1969 to July 1971.
The engine bay has been completely revised and all parts have been freshly galvanised, so this leaves nothing to be desired. The less-than-perfect paintwork in blue metallic and light beige interiors are very harmonious. The white Bakelite steering wheel and wood application of the dashboard are flawless. What with the sunroof and the fully-open side windows without a B-pillar, it is almost a convertible.
The interior, including the sky, was completely refurbished. Together with the door trim and wood it displays a noble and attractive quality. The chrome is complete and as the body in beautiful condition. On the engine side, the 2.8 liter injection engine with 118 kW (160 hp) is installed, coupled to a 4-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel shift lever. Repair of the sunroof and the rev counter are currently still on the “to do” list.
A well-maintained and carefully partly-restored vehicle to run and enjoy.
As a precursor to the W116, the front of the vehicle was equipped with a lower radiator grille, now referred to as “flat radiator coupe”. The 220 SEb / C was the first mass-production Mercedes car with disc brakes on the front wheels.
In the 280 SE 3.5 Coupé, this engine was offered for only one model year, hence the small number of units. Since it is precisely this engine that turns the luxury coupe into a “Gentleman’s Express”, connoisseurs and collectors prefer this version.
The rich wooden interior, the thick leather upholstery, comfortable seats and generous space invite you to travel in the most stylish and comfortable way you can imagine.
